Internet Marketing for Baby Boomers or Anyone Else.

Hello. I am a Baby Boomer, born in 1952. Don't get me wrong. I love my age. I have no problem with aging or with who I am. But here is my problem. I have been working since I was 15 years old. I have been nursing for nearly 40 years. I am tired of working for a boss. I hate working for the JOB any longer. So I decided to figure out this internet thing. What is all the hoopla about? Can you really earn a living online? Be your own boss? Work from home?

Well I gotta tell ya. You can. I am far from an expert, well maybe in nursing you could say that about me. But I am really just another newbie in internet marketing.

But let me tell you something about me. I love i! and I have figured a few things out. I am getting somewhere. I have plans and goals that I am meeting. It is really rather exciting.

And what I do best is help people. It is in my nature. Too many years nursing maybe, but I like helping people. So I decided to help people by sharing what I know and hopefully you will be able to quit your jobs too.

Anyway, come by from time to time and see what is happening and what you might find useful. You might be surprised.

What is a Baby boomer?

Well Merriam-Webster.com defines it as follows:

Baby Boom

Date: 1941

A marked rise in birthrate (as in the United States immediately following the end of World War II)

Baby boomer Noun

Well clinically speaking that would be correct. However, being a baby boomer myself, it’s just quite enough. We Baby boomers are a unique breed. We enjoy simplicity, yet we like to be in control. We enjoy good health and will do what it takes to achieve it. Boomers are very independent. Boomer Women will sometimes rather stay single and have careers than to bow to previous generations opinions as to what a woman should be doing. However, if she decides to get married she will turn that into a success and have a career as well. There is no limit to her achievements.

Boomer women are excellent at multi-tasking, which is why some have achieved such business success. There are certainly many Boomer women that are earning a living online as entrepreneurs.

There is also the not so positive side of Boomers. Many of them mismanaged funding early in life. Now later in life they are paying for multiple mortgages and have high credit card debt. Now the advertisers are hitting them hard to spend more and keep up with the “Jones’s” They are a very educated bunch of people. Yet they seem to have made some bad financial decisions and investments.

With the economy changing so radically and the country heading for a recession, it is like they have come full cycle. The country had just gotten over the recession of 1929 and the War and then the heyday started and baby’s started a commin’. So Baby Boomers have lived their lives with a different frame of mind, sometimes thinking they are invincible. However, now looking another recession in the eye is causing many of them to step back and take stock.

Many have turned to the internet. The fear is that debt is going to force many of them to work “forever”. How can they possibly retire? What about health insurance. If you are unemployed how can you afford it? What about medications. Although Baby Boomers value health, the stress and demands of high powered careers have taken their tolls.

So why not turn to the internet? You can work from home and control your time and input. Baby boomers love control. And you can make a very decent living, once you overcome the learning curve. I would say it is a good choice.

Again, speaking from personal experience, it is working for me. There are a few things to consider. Your investment, we already know money can be an issue. And there are many people out there that are really only interested in taking your money for very little in return. But I promise after you have read a few hundred emails you get the hang of who really wants to help you learn and who just wants to feather their own nest.

Then there is time management. Remember Baby Boomers love control, so this should be a cinch. NOT! It is the hardest thing to get a handle on controlling your work time at home and to avoid the distractions. It takes persistence and discipline. However, once you have mastered it, there is nothing like it in the world!

So you have to investigate what you want to do online, invest what money is okay for your budget, making smart decisions. And CONTROL your time.

It can be done, quite successfully. YOU CAN DO IT TOO!

It is amazing how distracted you can become when you are trying to have a career and work from home. Email can be one of the biggest distractions of all. Mainly because you have to sift through to decide if something they are offering is really beneficial. Who are “they” you might ask.

Well the work you are trying to do from home is internet marketing. And “they” are the other internet marketers that are trying to convince you that they have the next best thing to buttered toast! And to insure your success you must have this thing, whatever it is. They sell you, pitch you, tease you, and almost threaten you with failure if you don’t pay attention.

So...you start opening and reading and clicking...

What do you mean 4 hours have passed!! I must get dinner, the kids will be home from school, the dog needs to be let out.

How could this have happened?

Sound familiar. Well it certainly does to me. This has happened to me over and over and I dare say it has happened to every internet marketer that works from home.

Here is my take on this. There are just a few things you must do to make money on line.

• You need a product, be it yours, an affiliate's or Google's (adsense)
• You need a way of contacting people, be it a blog, a website, email campaigns
• you need people to sell it to

These are the essentials, albeit extremely oversimplified.

So now that you know what is essential, what do you do? YOU FOCUS.

You must make an agenda. What do you want to accomplish today toward your online success?

What can you do?

Well there is something you can do. It took awhile, but I finally learned this and it has made a huge difference in my online life.

You must be aware you are being distracted!

That's it! That's the big secret! All the internet gurus know this secret, but they will not necessarily share it with you. They figure you'll probably figure it out but until then they will continue to be part of the distraction.

So are you going to ignore your email? Tape it shut with duct tape so it can't get you again. No, of course not, But...

Have a plan...a little better than a list. Here's what I do.

1. I plan my time to do my online work every week just like a real work schedule.
2. Make your family and the dog part of your plan. Include them so they feel some ownership in assisting you with your online success. .
3. Make the email less important. Learn to filter it quickly, or put off til later when you have goof off time. Don’t let it distract you right off.
4. When I sit down to my block of time to work online, I have a designated 30-45 min of time to look at email. Now this means peruse. If you have 79 new emails. YOU MUST NOT LOOK AT ALL 79! You are going to have to good at glancing through them, prioritizing them and looking at the ones you feel are really important or interesting. You can always come back to this later and continue to clean it up while you are watching TV with the family with your laptop in use.
5. Here is where you work plan comes in. Nothing feels as good as being able to check things off your list. Let me repeat that. Nothing feels as good as being able to check things off your list. You feel like you are really internet marketing. You feel like this really is important and you are doing something toward your freedom from the JOB. You are really working from home. IT IS GREAT! Try it!
6. Work your allotted time for the day. Check off a thing or two from your list. Stand up feel proud and go cook dinner and oh, let the dog out.

You deserve to feel really good about yourself. You did it! You worked at your internet marketing business. You know you can't help but be successful if you can behave as a professional and take your work seriously.

Give this a real concerted effort. You may not be perfect at it for awhile. It is really hard to get away from the email and distractions and it takes a minute for the family to fall inline. But it will happen. I promise. It did for me. It will for you.

Most people who make money online, whether with internet marketing, or a housewife looking to make a little extra house money, know about Google AdSense.

However, many of them are not successful. They buy the highest paying keyword. They do everything the internet “gurus” tell them to do, yet they are not earning money. What are they doing wrong?

You can have all the perfect, highest paying keywords in the world on your website. But if no one is seeing that website it just doesn’t matter. Getting visitors to view your website is they key and frequently what is lacking.

When you visit a web page, think about how you navigate that website. After you have arrived on a certain page because you were looking for something that you typed into Google and that keyword landed you here. Frequently you have the tendency to click from page to page and check things out. You are able to do this because of the links on the page that you originally landed on. This is called site navigation. It is all about letting people go place to place on your site. And most importantly one way of maximizing your ability to earn money using Google Adsense.

This same navigation tactic can be applied to get visitors to your complete with all the different AdSense ads you have throughout your site. Remember there is no limit to the number of ads you can have Google place on your site and on ALL your pages. But again, you want people to look at your whole site. One ad may be more appealing to an individual than another. So keep them moving about by making links interesting and attention getting to keep your visitor longer.

Now remember you are not drawing attention to the AdSense ad itself. That is completely against AdSense rules and will get you banned. No what you are doing is getting them to visit your whole site by giving them interesting and appealing and curiosity devising menu tabs and links throughout your site to get people to go to all your pages and then be exposed by their mere presence on that page to all your Adsense ads that just happen to be there. Get it!?

You could also try graphics as a way to get your visitors attention. Turn the graphic into a hyperlink and allow your visitors to travel around your site this way as well.

Don’t limit your imagination to get people to be exposed to your money making Google AdSense ads. Do what ever it takes to make your site successful. Be Unique, and use good keywords. Use all the tricks of the trade to get visitors to your site and then once you have them there don’t let them leave too quickly by being interesting, humorous engaging and interactive. Your goal is to keep them there until they at least peruse ALL your Google Adsense Ads on EVERY page! Good Luck!
